Pop on Pop
It’s good to have friends.
My buddy Matt, who I used to partner with (along with our friend Jeremy) on Division 18, has a column called Pop on Pop on the dork website Forces of Geek. The column pontificates on a topic very near and dear to my heart: the trials and tribulations of a geeky new father trying to properly indoctrinate his young daughter into the joys of nerdy fandom, without going too far and destroying any hope of her asssimilating into proper society, or worse, having her rebel and turn into a vapid label-whore more concerned with her fingernail color and acquiring $400 pairs of shoes than seeing the new Batman movie with daddy.
This is a topic Matt and I have debated, plotted, and agonized over, but the training is over and the race is on. His daughter Alexa (left, atop my shoulders) has a ten month lead on Cassie, and already claps at the sight of Darth Vader, but they both went to their first NY ComicCon this year, so I think things will level out.
Recently, Cassie and Alexa had a playdate, and Matt sat me down for an interview on Pop on Pop. It’s a fun read, if you want to check it out.
Also, while on the topic of my friends and their neverending coolness, my friend and fellow SF author Myke Cole, who, amongst his many short story credits, was a winner in the 2003 L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future competition (no, he’s not a Scientologist. Neither is Patrick Rothfuss, who took first place the year before.), has a new story in the Spring 2009 edition of Black Gate, on sale now. You can see an excerpt of his story, Naktong Flow, here. The story is an older one; Myke is currrently finishing his literary opus, a modern-day military fantasy called Latent. Expect to start hearing about it soon.
Also, a little shout-out to bookstore Fiction Addiction in Greenville South Carolina for the recommendation of The Warded Man in their April newsletter by store owner Jill Hendrix (who I do NOT know). Thanks, Jill!

Hey Peat, thought you’d get a kick out of this, I saw it on Karen Traviss’ blog.
Just read Mark Chitty’s review of The Warded Man – Arlen conquers again!

Awesome interview with Mr. Bergin! I think for next Halloween, Alexa should dress up as Harley Quinn and Cassie can be Poison Ivy!
