Pre-Order The Great Bazaar!

great_bazaar_cover

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, Subterranean Press is producing a book of short stories set in the world of The Warded Man entitled The Great Bazaar, and Other Stories. The book will publish in January 2010, but it is already available for pre-order, and will be released well before The Desert Spear in April 2010.

The book will be a small 5.5 x 8 cloth-bound hardcover with jacket art by the excellent Lauren Cannon, who also designed the wards and some of the other art for this site. The title story centers around Arlen Bales during his time as a Messenger. This is essentially chapter 16.5 of The Warded/Painted Man, showing how Arlen comes to find the lost city of Anoch Sun.

The Great Bazaar is a wonderful introduction into Arlen’s world for new readers, as well as an exciting and informative tale for fans of the larger series. It is set in the city-state of Fort Krasia, AKA The Desert Spear, so it is also an excellent appetizer for those waiting eagerly for the second book in the series, which begins there.

In addition to the main story, there will be a couple of deleted scenes from The Warded Man, essentially short stories in and of themselves, and supplemental material including a glossary and grimoire of wards with descriptions both of the symbols and the demons they repel (including some demons not yet seen!). Supplies will be limited, as it will be a relatively small print run. The run will include 200 signed and numbered editions. Pre-order your copy now!

Subterranean Press has a long history of producing high quality original books and collectible versions of modern classics. I am immensely pleased and proud to add my name to their list of distinguished authors.

I have some other cool announcements in the queue, so keep your eyes on the Peephole!

  5. Was really excited about this, but I’m from the UK, so it would be $45, plus another $17 for shipping… Boo!

Is there any chance of a UK release? I really want to get one of the limited editions, but am a poor student!

  6. Paul, there will be a limited edition UK deluxe version of The Painted Man coming out (hopefully) later this year that contains The Great Bazaar, but it will likely cost more than $62.

Secret option #3 would be to buy the unsigned $20 version and bring it to my next UK signing, which will be around the time The Desert Spear launches in April 2010. I will personalize the heck out of it!

  7. Hey Peat

I want to go for Secret option #3 – so you’d better be signing in Glasgow (or Edinburgh) otherwise you’ll upset both me and Paul (who introduced me to The Painted Man).

    :)

  8. Hi Kate,

If you know a store in Glasgow or Edinburgh that will host a signing, I’ll see what I can do. :)
