Pronunciations

During the audio contest, some people were asking about pronunciations of words in the Demon Cycle series; to help with that, here is a small pronunciation guide. I’ve written out how you would pronounce it but also included an audio file so that you can hear it (that usually works best for me). Personally it will come in handy because there isn’t anything much more embarrassing than mispronouncing a character’s name…when talking to the author.
If there are any words that aren’t on this list that you aren’t sure about the pronunciation of, post a comment here, on the forum or email me at PA@www.petervbrett.com .

  1. Awesome. Great idea. I wish someone would have done this for all the names from fantasy novels I screwed up when I was a kid. Drizz’t ring a bell.

  3. I was so embarrassingly off on Inevera’s pronounciation. (#shame)

Thanks so much for this, Peter. I wish more authors would take the time to do something similar.

  4. This is a great idea. Beginning to read the two books again (think this is my fifth time!), so now the pronunciation will be clearer in my head. Thanks.

  5. Heh, bookmarked this and the Forum entry for later perusal come TDW. I am determined! Rojer will ne’er find his name butchered by my tongue again!

Hehe, honestly though, this is a great idea. I often have long conversations with my sister [with her degree in English Language] on pronunciation. A definitive guide like this is excellent. Thanks both!

  6. Please pronounce “Asome” for me.

(In my head I’ve been saying ah-SEW-may)
