Reviews: Warded Man & Desert Spear

Posted by Meg

If you are like me, you LOVE re-reading favorite books. Especially in anticipation of a new one coming out. With the upcoming release of The Daylight War coming up on February 12th, bloggers and reviewers all over the interwebs are cracking open the Warded Man and Desert Spear. Listen to what they have to say! It might inspire you to go back and read some old favorites yourself.

Bob of Beautiful Ruins reads The Warded Man as one of his first picks of the New Year

… I found myself hooked right from the first chapter. Brett’s writing style is crisp and efficient, but also elegant in its own way. There’s a voice there that pulled me in and invited me to take a seat behind the warded door and listen to a story.

Leo of Jet Black Ink recently read and reviewed both The Warded Man and The Desert Spear, giving them both 5 star ratings.

Brett’s prose is simple and effective, but that’s not where the true talent lies and what makes the book such an unalloyed pleasure. It is his immense world and honest, true, awesome characters that make it the stellar success it is. There is nothing about The Warded Man that I did not like. Nothing.

An astounding yarn that miraculously outdoes its predecessor. Utterly compelling and dark in all the right places, with just the right amount of light and hope dolloped on top for sweetness. Brilliant.

Steff from Steff Reviews Books let’s us know what she thinks about The Desert Spear:

The detail of the world building is exquisite; to the point where if I was magically transported into the book I’m confident I could find my way around without a hitch, knowing my precise location based solely on the height of the locals; and the magic system, greatly developed as the characters explore deeper into its mysteries, is fascinating, dangerous and addictive in its effects and consequences.

Will you be re-reading any of the the Demon Cycle books before getting your hands on The Daylight War? Let us know in the comments!

Peat will be traveling all over the place starting February 12th. Check out the Appearances section on his website to see if he will be stopping by your city.

  1. I am thinking of re-reading The Painted Man and then the Desert Spear. It’s been more than a year since I last read it so I should brush up on the characters, the world, before delving into the new Daylight War.

Frankly, The Demon Cycle is still one of my most favourite series I’ve ever read. Every time I transfer myself into that amazingly written world, it keeps me on the edge of my seat. 🙂
