Bio Contest: Superhero, Bear Wrestler or Murderer?

Posted by Meg

The Bio Contest officially ended on Sunday night, but we are still posting the entries. Check these ones out:

From Bryce:

Peter V. Brett grew up wanting to be an author and a superhero. Somehow he accomplished both.

From Crystal:

While writing pharmaceutical propaganda for a private research center, author Peter V. Brett became known as Peat. Some say the nickname came from eating an unknown type of preserved flesh mistaken for beef jerky. Under suspicious circumstances, Peat left the company at the same time as a set of bone dice was reported missing. Hearing of another author¹s use of the I Ching to write novels, Peat decided to give it a go with the bone dice. A bit of trial and error and a chunk of time later Peat emerged with the Warded Man manuscript. Three rejections and some bidding later the Warded Man was on its way out into the world. It was soon followed by The Desert Spear and The Daylight War. Peat along with the dice have gone to ground somewhere in Brooklyn. He is rumored to be working on his next book The Skull Throne.

From Sam:

No one can quite agree when Peter V. Brett first entered the world. Some say it was a Tuesday. Others say it rained that day. Still others say the giant volcano that erupted should be significant enough for remembering the specific day. What everyone does agree on though was that it happened. Whether that’s a good thing or not is still being debated.  Anyway, Pete was born. Soon enough he discovered he wasn’t quite a fan of that. So he changed it to Peat. Then Peat was born and all was right with the world.  Well, sort of. Some things happened – rogue science experiment here, dastardly plan there – but Peat eventually became a writer. It probably has to do with the fact that he has remarkably strong fingers, like fingers that if were blown up to a hundred sizes larger, would have the strength of fingers one hundred and one sizes larger. That is not someone you want to mess around with.  Also, Peat owns a cat named Dog and a dog named, haha, just kidding.

From Michael:

Peter V Brett, bearded author from Brooklyn likes peanut butter, origami and demons. Hates sport. The V is for Voldamort. Badabing!

From Rpl:

Peter V Brett was born in China, to a pair of missionary parents, who were residing in the small village of Ciu Fang. He spent the first four years of his life there, picking up an understanding of Chinese words and characters. After his parents returned home, Brett was ostracized by the other children for his inability to speak English as well as they did. His parents hired for him an English tutor, whom he trained with relentlessly, until he could speak and write English as well as his fellows. Brett grew up on a healthy diet of Tolkien, Heinlein, and Lovecraft. He wrote his first story in the fifth grade, about a snake who tried to be a sea serpent. Following this, he began to write more and more, until his sole ambition was to be a fantasy author. Brett’s parents, however, did not approve of his career choice. Being equal parts supportive and firm, they told him he must get a degree in something sensible, before pursuing his dreams of being a writer. So, Peter V. Brett spent four years getting a degree in electrical engineering, at NYU in New York. His thesis project was the basic design of a machine that could produce more of itself. The theory worked, but when implemented, could only replicate successfully thrice, before shutting down. After getting his degree, Brett spent time in Europe, visiting places from Berlin to Tibet, including visiting his childhood home of Ciu Fang. In Istanbul, he met up with a group of Italian tourists, where he met Alicia. They immediately hit it off, and were married by the end of the year. Brett returned home with his new wife, and got a job at the local city college, while also working on his first book. The book, The Life of End, was his masterpiece, but flopped on the international market. Distraught, Brett gave up writing for a year. After returning to the writing scene, with the support of his wife and his students, he began working on a fantasy novel, The Warded Man, which drew from his childhood knowledge of Chinese characters. The book quickly became a success, and Brett subsequently began work on the rest of the series. Today, he is a celebrated fantasy author, who is on Twitter.

From Aaron:

Peter V. Brett is the modern pen name of Sir Francis Bacon, and is an immortal being birthed from the loins of a long-forgotten (and so not very successful) goddess of fertility. When “Peat” was thought to be fourteen, he was framed for murder and sentenced to seventeen years in Attica Correctional Facility, during which time he reportedly killed two dozen men with his bare hands. The irony of this was not lost on him. After his release from prison in 2003, Peter revealed his true identity to a group of college sophomores and elderly women during a local writer’s meetup at a Starbucks in South Orange, NJ; they subsequently worshipped him as a manifestation of Yama, the Buddhist god of the underworld. A strong believer in mining one’s own life for writing ideas, Peter conceived of a story about a young man trapped in a harsh world who becomes the deadliest fighter alive and bangs the hottest woman on the planet as he gradually leaves weakness behind and evolves into demonhood. Thus was *The Painted Man * born. Peat is a lifelong Lawful Evil adherent, but often expresses an aesthetic appreciation for Chaotic Neutral. He currently resides in Brooklyn with thirteen daughters begat upon his late followers. He owns several cats and can often be seen wearing a ponytail.

From Adam:

What can be said about Peter V Brett? Well not anything exciting really since he never wrestled any bears. He writes some books, those are pretty good. Whatever book you are holding is probably half decent. Since he lives vicariously through his books this may or may not contain bear wrestling.

We will be choosing the winner later this week. The prize is one U.S. hardcover of The Warded Man with the optional Larry Rostant cover. There have been so many creative entries, Peat will have a hard time choosing one.
