Bio Contest: Last Entries

Winners for the Bio Contest will be announced soon. But we wanted to show a few more hilarious and heartfelt entries. Enjoy!

From Joshua:

Peter Vee Brett is the author of The Warded Man, The Desert Spear and his latest release, Daylight War.  A viewing of Little Shop of Horrors as a small child was a transformational event for Peat (as he is known to his friends).  With it began two of his abiding passions: writing fantasy stories and amateur dentistry.  After graduating from New Rochelle High School in 1991 and earning a BA in English Literature and Art History from the University of Buffalo in 1995, he embarked on a successful career in pharmaceutical publishing.  He kept writing fantasy in his free time.  He wrote on every available surface: Post-it Notes, legal pads, dictating to an old voice recorder given to him by a doctor friend.  This made completing all but the shortest of stories a challenge.  Finally, with the advent of the iPhone, he was able to organize his writing and embark on more ambitious projects, writing most of his first two novels on this device.  He lives in Brooklyn and is currently working on the fourth book of his Demon Cycle, The Skull Throne.  At signings he is known for occasionally breaking into an a cappella rendition of “Suddenly Seymour”.

From Nate:

Peter V. Brett is a man of many words – some shrewd, some distressing, and most straight to the point. He wields the Gemmellian Axe of valor, *Snaga*, and with it has dominated much of the six lands. His beard may not be to the proper standards held for fantasy authors, but don’t let this fool you. Peat’s mind was sharpened at the University of Buffalo where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English. He minored in Art History, Dungeons & Dragons, Fencing, and of course Girls. His childhood artistry and love of comics led him to manage a comic book store. Soon after, he took a “respectable” job with the paramount title of “Medical Publishing Production Supervisor”, where he sat in a cube. Titles are not jobs and Peat found himself dissatisfied. So he began to write. In 2007 Peat sold his fourth novel, *The Painted Man*, and retired from the Ministry of Medical Magic to write fantasy full time. Peat’s throne of power is Brooklyn, NY. Though lordly in title, Peat is a gentle man. He dotes on his little princess Cassandra as any good father does. His subjects love him for he frequents them with grand contests to win his favor. Peat is often found at conventions where he is eager to meet his vassals, be they cosplay or scholars. And he wrestled a bear.

From Shaun:

Peter V. Brett is the rarest of the rare among fantasy writers. He is illiterate. He managed to graduate with a high school diploma from New Rochelle High School, and from the University of Buffalo with a B.A. in English Literature and Art History by the practical application of the infinite monkeys with infinite typewriters theorem. Of course he is unaware of this theory (being, once again, illiterate) so he does not actually use monkeys or typewriters, instead he goes out into the woods and throws bears into trees – not having wasted any of his life learning the alphabet has enabled him to focus on more martial pursuits – letting the wood chips spell out a story, which he then photographs and sends to his agent. He is unaware of his literary achievements, and reacts violently whenever anyone tries to confront him with them. It is unknown where he currently resides, although he can usually be found by listening to the roars of angry bears, followed by the thump of said bears hitting trees.

From Bill:

Peter V. Brett became intrigued at the prospect of writing books after witnessing a chimpanzee named ‘Bananas’ typing a memo on a typewriter. That same day he purchased a typewriter, some paper and put on a pot of coffee… then he got distracted. Nevertheless, Peter was committed never to let that darn monkey win and fuelled by his hatred he graduated from the University of Buffalo in 1995 with a Bachelor’s degree majoring in English Literature and Art History. While celebrating his graduation at a bar, Peter looked up to see Bananas the Chimp (Peter never forgets a face) in outer space. Now it was personal. Humiliated and filled with loathing Peter dedicated himself to his writing. He lives in Brooklyn and despite the success of his previous titles The Warded Man, The Desert Spear and most recently the Daylight War, Peter has vowed to never let the chimpanzee gain the upper hand ever again. His initials, PVB serve as a daily reminder that in this cruel world its Peter Versus Bananas.

The prize is one U.S. hardcover of The Warded Man with the optional Larry Rostant cover. There have been so many creative entries, Peat will have a hard time choosing one.
