The Messenger Rode In…

And brought me a box of presents:

That’s right, The Warded Man is finally going to hit mass-market paperback in the US, just in time to whet appetites for The Desert Spear. If you’ve been on the fence about shelling out for the hardback, or just want the awesome new cover, the MMPB goes on sale March 23. Del Rey just sent me 24 copies, which is obviously more than I need. I smell another giveaway contest coming up…

I also got an ARC of Jon Sprunk’s Shadow’s Son from Prometheus (Pyr) books the other day:

I’m already 100 pages into Abercrombie’s Before They Are Hanged and quite enjoying it, but I am going to put it aside for a week or two so I can read Jon’s book. Jon is in my Lit. Agency, and I promised to read Shadow’s Son and write a blurb if it didn’t suck. I’m on chapter 2 now, and not at all worried about suckage. Chapter 1 kicked ass.

  1. Those advance reading copies of Shadow’s Son look awesome. I’d like to check that out as well. I’ll have to check with my agents and denizens in the field to procure a copy…

  2. Not the right entry to post this under, but will The Great Bazaar ship in Polish (with some Special Edition of The Desert Spear, maybe?)? If not I’ll just buy the English edition, but otherwise I’d prefer to have the entire collection in one language. Thanks in advance.

  3. Aravan, there is currently no deal in place to print The Great Bazaar in Poland, but the extended version (with a second novella called Brayan’s Gold) is available for licensing, so it may find its way there eventually, especially if The Desert Spear does as well as The Painted Man did in Poland.

    Sorry I can’t give a better answer…

  4. You, most definitely, do not need 24. 😉

  5. I dunno, Lizette. I am kind of tempted to build a little fort out of them…

  6. The paperbacks look great, Peat. Congratz!

And thanks for reading Shadow’s Son. Is that your official response? “Hey, it didn’t suck!”

It has a nice ring to it.

  10. (I think my original post is lost in cyberspace, so pls forgive if this is a repeat!)

Hey there Mr. Brett! If you build a fort, can I crawl in the middle to read? I’m always searching for a new adventure!

  11. Kate, your comment was caught in the spam filter, probably because you put a link to your site in the first two attempts. I’ve approved them, so you shouldn’t have trouble next time. I think.

Regardless, if a comment doesn’t show up right away, don’t fret. I check the filter regularly.

I think it would be pretty cool to build a fort people can crawl into and read. That sounds incredibly cozy. Especially if there were cookies inside.

No idea what the contest will be. I’ll think of something. Everyone feel free to shout out ideas.

  12. Ooooh, contest sounds awesome! I hope it’ll be open to all, regardless of region?

[Granted, I already own two copies of The Painted Man, but it’d rock to have a copy of TWM to carry around in my back pocket!]

I am well-jealous of your ARC copies too, they look so shiny, I’m torn; I want to steal them, but then I’d be stealin’ from one of my favourite authors….Damn you moral dilemma!

I thoroughly hope that you’ll let us know how both Shadow’s Son & Before They Are Hanged treat you, as well as writing that blurb? I loved the latter, and am lookin’ forward to the former….

  13. Contest Idea! — Paranormal & Fantasy Literature has really come to the forefront in the last few years! Let’s open a discussion on readers views as to why that may be? I know this is probably a discussion that’s been had a few times, and then some, but as a reader myself, I get the feeling that the continuously growing popularity is still a great discussion to be had with 1000’s of viewpoints! Could be quite the discussion thread! So, post the discussion and use random.org to choose winners. You could also grant a prize to the person (or person’s) who’s comments generated the most reaction/further discussion.

    Just a thought!
