Skull Throne ARC Contest: Triple Cosplay

Posted by Meg

Superfan Carol (who has stunned us with her warded tatts and other fan art before) jumps into the ring with not one, but three cosplays! Which one is your favorite?

I’ve chosen to make a Cosplay of Ashia, I think it’s great that you have so many female characters that are as good as the men at fighting. I love the scene where Jardir and Inevera watch Ashia and Shanvah fight the demons and go on to become Sharum’ting. I’ve tried to recreate this with two pictures together and used an effect that I think looks like ward sight.

I also dressed up again as Renna and Wonda to play around with the images.

For Renna I had to try out the pose from your cover for Skull Throne.

I warded a bow and tried special effects make up to scar my face for Wonda.

These are all amazing. I am really digging the Ashia cosplay right now. I kinda want that warded circular shield.

Skull Throne ARC Contest: Demon Fights

Posted by Meg

One of the best type of scene is an action scene. And what makes action scenes even better? Demons.

Neil chose the pivotal One Arm fight scene with Arlen and worked together with his uncle to create his entry:

 Neil

The black and white is beautiful, and the quote is perfect. Fantastic job, Neil and Neil’s uncle!

Matt decided to go with a later scene of a warded Arlen battling a demon:

Stunning. From the minute details of the wards on Arlen’s skin to the jagged edges of the coreling, this makes for a dramatic, detailed entry.

Arthur went in a different direction with his entry. Here’s his inspiration:

While I really enjoy many scenes in the series, my favorite is still the point at which Arlen ignites the fuse that may eventually lead to the downfall of the demons. I chose two related scenes from that point in the story. The first, when Arlen’s faithful search finally pays off and he uncovers the fighting wards. The second, the moment when Arlen risks everything and ultimately becomes humanity’s best weapon against the demons.

Wow. These are beautifully warded and such great scenes to choose! Thanks for entering, Arthur

Skull Throne ARC Contest: Warded Walls

An important part of the Demon Cycle is making sure your walls are warded. Two fans chose scenes with some of the most famously warded walls:

Scott decided to illustrate two scenes: one of the walls of Angiers, the second a demon breach!

These are both awesome. I love the illuminated wards in the second one and the beautiful woods in the first. Great atmosphere.

Joe wanted to visualize men Watchers of Krasia running along the walls:

I love the perspective in this, and the Watcher in mid-jump. It makes me feel like a demon is about to attack! Thanks for entering, Joe!

We had two entries featuring some of the more … romantic moments of the Demon Cycle.

Andrea decided to illustrate the very important scene when Arlen finds Leesha gathering herbs early one morning.

Skull Throne ARC Contest: The Warded Man

These two fans both decided to paint Arlen in the midst of transformation. The result is pretty awesome.

Dominik sent us his very first digital painting. Here’s what he had to say about the process and the scene that inspired him:

I’m sending you my very first digital painting named Newborn Shar’Dama Ka, inspired by scene where Arlen finds the ruins of Anoch Sun …

… It took me about 5 days of experimenting and learning new things but so far I can tell I’m going to paint more and more so thank you for that already!

Well, I am amazed that this is his first digital painting. I think these are stunning, and I can’t decide which one I like best! Great job, Dominik!

Tylon chose to paint Arlen during a different transformation, one that Renna witnesses. Here’s the scene that inspired him:

“Renna’s throat was hoarse from screaming when the mist seeped back up from the ground and began to take Arlen’s form. She laughed through her tears and nearly choked. It seemed only a moment ago that he was as good as cored and she expecting no better, but now every demon in the area was dead, the night hauntingly quiet as she and Arlen stared at each other. The mind demon’s magic feedback had been intense, and Renna’s senses felt more alive than they ever had in her life. She practically crackled with energy, and her heart was pounding like a Jongleur’s hand drums. Arlen glowed so intensely he hurt to look at.” Pg. 577 – 578

From Renna’s perspective – Arlen brimming with siphoned demon magic and only partially reformed, back from core. (Left, the print ; Right the linoleum – “carving”)

Tylon Arlen

I love the idea of using both the carving and the print … the wards look beautiful on both pieces. Thanks for entering, Tylon!
