Friday 5pm: Visual versus Textual Reading/Intelligence
Most movies/shows are judged by critics on their textual intelligence – the plot, the dialogue, etc. But visual intelligence is also important, and often missed in professional criticism. Tumblr memes spend days going over the tiniest visual cue in Captain America, while Pacific Rim is called “a dumb movie” – how can we improve our visual intelligence?

Watch a group of fantasy authors play classic D&D. We have an awesome roster for this year’s game including Joe AbercrombieDiana RowlandWesley ChuMyke Cole and Doug Hulick.

Saturday 3pm: How to Raise Your Nerd
Fannish parents discuss raising the next generation of fans.

Saturday 4pm: Mass Autograph Session

Sunday 11am: The Comics Code
Where have all the diverse, feminist comics gone? How about the 1930s and 40s, in the days before the Comics Code?

Tweephole #44

Peat begins copyedits for The Skull Throne and receives an exciting box of books in the mail!

  • @PVBrett – I have never read a bad review that makes me wish I’d written something differently.
  • @PVBrett – Deep down I think we’d all like to lead a huge synchronized dance number just once.
  • @PVBrett – Copyedit oddity: ‘-ward’ words. US style is ending on the ‘d’ ie ‘backward’. UK style is to add ‘s’ ie ‘backwards’. Does anyone really care?
  • @PVBrett – What could it be?

XMAS what could it be

  • @PVBrett – Xmas came early!

Xmas came early ML

Cassie 1 lotr

  • @PVBrett – Watching The Phantom Menace with Cassie. The things we do for love…
  • @PVBrett – I had forgotten just how incredibly godawful Phantom Menace is. I recall Attack of the Clones being an improvement. #fingerscrossed
  • @PVBrett – Copyedit for #SkullThrone complete. I am eating cookies in bed and reading The Slow Regard of Silent Things by @PatrickRothfuss.
  • @PVBrett – Suffering through the Anakin/Padme romance in Attack of the Clones and thinking maybe Jar Jar isn’t the worst part of prequels after all.
  • @PVBrett – Attack of the Clones is bad, though still better than Phantom Menace. The half hour I just spent lightsaber dueling Cassie? Pure joy.
  • @PVBrett – So @HarperVoyagerUK is going in a very different direction on their #skullthrone cover. It’s gonna be awesome.

Check out what Peat’s up to in real time on Twitter or Facebook.
