Fan Art Contest: Winners and Prizes

Posted by Meg

I really enjoyed receiving and posting all the amazing artwork that came in throughout the month of December for the Fan Art Contest. We didn’t have a ton of entries, but it seems that each of the entries was chock full of hard work and exceptional artistic talent. So, first and foremost, Peat and I want to thank everyone who took some time to create something wonderful for this contest. Everybody will be receiving a prize for entering.

So, without further ado, the winners.

Grand Prize

The Grand Prize is a very special Stephen King Library Desk Calendar. A Science Fiction Book Club exclusive, this calendar features a gorgeous holographic cover, essays by awesome writers and facts, quizzes and trivia themed around Stephen Kind’s The Dark Tower. It has also been signed by many of  the contributors (including Peat!).

I am pleased to announce that the Grand Prize goes to Kym who created the demon horn from one of the last scenes in The Desert Spear with Leesha and Inevera and a beautiful warded box.

There is a lot more where that came from! Check out her full entry here. We also did another entry concerning the awesomeness that is Kym.

Congrats Kym! We are sending you this very special calendar.

Second Prize

Two copies of The Warded Man Graphic Audio Discs. Recorded like an old time radio show with sound effects and music, this is a whole new way to experience The Warded Man! Also, each winner will receive a poster signed by the cast AND Peat in shiny silver and gold pens.

Birte!

I am a huge fan of Birte. And her entry to the Fan Art Contest was no exception. Combing words, music and painting, Birte created a beautiful story. This is just a small portion of her creation.

Go to her original entry to see the rest of her fantastic mural and listen to her beautiful composition. Birte is also quite prolific. You can check out all other Birte-related posts here.

Margherita!

We love Margherita. She was the winner of last year’s Cosplay Contest with her beautiful reenactment of Inevera. For the Fan Art Contest, she created something really special: a Warded 2012 Calendar. She chose a ward for each month and decorated the finished product. Here are some choice shots of her calendar.

She also sent the whole thing to Peat! Quite the New Year’s gift.

Congrats to Birte and Margherita! They both made complex and beautiful projects that Peat and I found absolutely stunning.

Third Prize

Renna T-Shirts designed by Lauren Cannon (otherwise known as navate) and printed by Graphic Audio.
And the shirts go to …

Maria with her seriously kick-ass tattoo modeled after the original French cover of The Warded Man.

You can click her name to check out her original post. She later went back and got the rest of the tattoo done … complete with an excellent forgery of Peat’s signature. Check it out …

Carol for her beautiful sketch of Twilight Dancer. I am a huge fan of Twilight Dancer, and Carol’s picture is spot one and detailed.

Check out Carol’s other posts here.

And the rest!

A set of four warded dice in a velvet bag.

Congrats to everyone else! Check your mailboxes for these very special dice.

Red Sonja’s Best Moment of 2011

Posted by Meg

The Nemedian Chronicles, the definitive blog for all things Red Sonja, just listed Red Sonja’s best moments of 2011. And the singular best moment happened during Peat’s issue of the comic, Red Sonja: Blue. Check it out here to see what they had to say about it and check the other highlighted Red Sonja moments of 2011.

This is exciting news as Peat is planning on working on some more Red Sonja comics in the future (after he finishes The Daylight War of course).

It also comes right on the heels of something very special that arrived in the mail from Brazil last month: original art from amazing RSB artist Walter Geovanni!

Best Blog of 2011 – Fantasy Faction

Posted by Meg

On January 5, Fantasy Faction posted their Best of 2011 list and awarded Peat the title of best fantasy blog! Peat says it’s because thanks to me, we are finally posting the huge backlog of material from the time he spent recovering from surgery and working on Daylight War. Either way, a great honor!

You can check out the full list here. There are lots of awesome categories from best debut fantasy book to best fantasy video game (hm, I wonder what that one will be …). Want more? Fantasy Faction has a bunch of reviews of Peat’s books and an interview.

Boskone 49

Posted by Meg

Are you going to be in Northeast this February? If so, make sure you head over to Boston, Massachusetts for Boskone 49 where Peat will be participating in panels and signing books! On top of that, John Scalzi is going to be the guest of honor.

The dates are February 17-19, 2012, and you  can go ahead and register right now. The hotel is the Westin Waterfront at 425 Summer Street Boston, Massachusetts 02210. Click here for transportation information and directions.

UPDATE: Here is Peat’s panel schedule for Boskone 49

Saturday 10:00 – 11:00, SF/F/H As a Mirror on Society , Harbor II (Westin)

It’s simplistic to say genre fiction maps to current politics. Vampires are bankers, zombies are the revengeful victimized classes, and werewolves are the media in feeding frenzy? C’mon. But did we write more optimistic SF when the space race was young? Or victorious spacewar stories when we were losing Vietnam? If fiction in any way reflect societal anxieties or moods, what do we make of steampunk, or sparkly vamps, or dystopian YA, or upticks in stories about ghosts or gaming?

Jeanne Cavelos (M), Dana Cameron, Steven Popkes, Peter V. Brett

Saturday 11:00 – 12:00, Kaffeeklatsche: Peter V. Brett, Galleria-Kaffeeklatsch 2 ( Westin)

Advance sign-up at Information required; limited to 10 Peter V. Brett

Saturday 13:00 – 14:00, Character and Hard SF, Carlton (Westin)

A stereotype of hard SF is that it’s all about the hardware, and that the characters are one-dimensional. This hasn’t been true for a long time. The panel discusses who character works in hard SF.

Justine Graykin (M), Allen M. > Steele, Bud Sparhawk, Kathryn Cramer, Peter V. Brett

Saturday 16:00 – 17:00, Optimism vs. Darkness in SF, Griffin (Westin)

Some says it’s historical. So early SF stories were all, “We’re going to the stars and will live forever yay,” while more recent SF tends to moan, “If the ecocatastrophe doesn’t get us the zombie plagues will.” Or geographical: do Brits do it more in the dark? Or ageist: is YA usually light-hearted? Or stylistic: does realism bloom better in the shade?

Peter V. Brett (M), Leonid Korogodski, Jennifer Pelland, Phoebe Wray

Sunday 14:00 – 15:00, Autographing: Peter V. Brett. S. C. Butler, John Scalzi, Galleria-Autographing (Westin)

S. C. Butler, Peter V. Brett, John Scalzi
