Fever Dreams

I’ve been running a fever for two days now, ever since I went to bed on Wednesday night. I had just read a couple of chapters of the new Wheel of Time book, and the night was filled with shivering, sweating, and dreams of Rand al’Thor, as my subconscious desperately tried to solve his problems for him. I too have a pain in my side that will never go away, so I feel for the guy.

Right now I have a temperature of 100 degrees and feel generally cruddy, but I got bored in bed so I snuck next door to my cozy office chair for a quick internet fix.

Five more entries in the Fan Art Contest have come in, from two fans (below). For those of you still working on your entries, time is short! All entries are due by November 15, so after midnight on Sunday, you’re out of luck. (You can, of course, keep sending me fan art after that date, which I will likely post on the blog, but you will not be entered to win any prizes). Send your digital entries to: Peat@www.petervbrett.com

Some great entries in this batch. The first three entries are from Martin in the UK:

Two More

The fabulous Elena from Russia has put in two more entries to the Fan Art Contest: Mery and Rojer. I’m glad people are entering multiple times, because I LOVE what everyone is doing!

Elena’s comments on her entries:

Mery because I wanted to see the girl, who took Arlen’s heart (Now it is up to you to judge if she is good enough for him) and Rojer, who despite all bad things believe in something good and simple. He deserves to have a face. All the best, Elena

Painted Men

Just when I thought the Fan Art Contest could get no harder to judge, another entry hit my inbox, this from Craig, AKA “Booga” from the UK. Not to be outdone by Mark, Craig displayed a freshly inked wood ward on his ankle:

This is apparently one of the last places he can tattoo, as he is going for a full tat suit (I have requested a wider angle shot). It’s an honor to claim one of the last bits of real estate as a permanent homage to Arlen’s struggle.

Did I mention that the Fan Art Contest is still accepting entries until November 15? Time is running out, people! First prize is my ONLY spare advance read copy of The Great Bazaar, my book of short stories and supplemental materials from the Demon Cycle books. Due to the unending awesomeness of the entries, I will be adding some additional prizes.

To enter, create a piece of art in the medium of your choice and e-mail a .jpg (or other digital file if your art is, say, interpretive dance or a catchy jingle) of it to me at peat@www.petervbrett.com. Beyond that, the rules are there are no rules. Enter as many times as you like.

Quickie

Cob, by French Jess:

I think she did a fantastic job of capturing Arlen’s weathered and gruff mentor.

Awesome Fan Art

A lot’s been going on lately and I have a great many things to report, including adventures at the World Fantasy Convention in San Jose and some news about my upcoming work, but all that will have to wait a bit, as I am barely keeping my head above water. In the meantime, there have been some VERY strong entries in the Fan Art Contest this past week:

Elena is from Russia, where the book has yet to be translated and released by my Russian publisher AST, but she came across an English version in a Finnish bookstore in Helsinki and fell in love. She has entered four drawings of her favorite characters, starting with Arlen in transition:

Leesha:

Elissa (as played by Rachel Weiz):

Mark, who I believe is from right here in the good ol’ US of A, came in with a stunning entry the other day– his arms! Yes, Mark is a true Warded Man, and let no one deny it. Some months ago he got in touch with the artist for permission, and then went anf got himself warded up for good. I don’t think I need to tell any of you how unstoppably awesome this is:

Iris from Germany, who has entered a few times already, felt the contest needed more color, and so submitted this picture of young Arlen, back in the Tibbet’s Brook days before his life got so complicated:

Eve, also from Germany, apparently agrees with Iris, in this stylized interpretation of the birth of power in a ward:

Remember, all entries are due no later than November 15, and the art can be in any medium you prefer. Enter as often as you like. Grand prize is a personalized advance read copy of my upcoming book, The Great Bazaar. I was going to have that be the only prize, but with so many great entries, I will scrounge some more goodies to give away.

Thanks!
