Desert Spear Review at SFF Chat

desert_spear_cover_thumbIt’s getting to be about that time!

No, not Lent. Better. It’s time for Desert Spear reviews to start popping up!

The first comes from the blog SFF Chat. You may recall that blog editor Simcha won a copy in the Desert Spear ARC Contest by risking life and limb walking a metal beam over a deep ditch to visit a Bedouin encampment down the road from her home in the Judean Desert with a copy of TWM. She then had to explain that the pictures were “for a weird American thing”.

Anyway, Simcha promised to review the book for her blog, and was true to her word. Check out her review here.

It’s had me grinning since last night.

  3. Oh, not fair. You can’t tempt us with things like this, it’s mean! I’m anticipating enough already, gorramit!

Heh, wicked review though – with a final line that I can’t disagree with – congrats! Easter is certainly going to be a Brett-filled time for me, hehe.

  4. Wonderful review, and well-deserved I’m sure. Can’t wait to get my copy of DS.

  5. Woopdidoo!

I just got this in the mail:

    Greetings from Amazon.com.

We thought you’d like to know that we shipped your items, and that this
completes your order. Your order is being shipped and cannot be changed
by you or by our customer service department.

Great Bazaar is on the way to my postbox! I’m glad it shipped earlier in the end.

  6. Half a month ’till TDS, that IS exciting =). D’you know when your signings be Mister Brett?

While I’m REALLY, really, [Wish ther was a smaller font] really lookin’ forward [hah, punnnn] to TDS, I’d have loved to read TGB too – while there is a page on The Book Depository, I’ve not heard anything about th book coming in.

Do you know anything about UK dates?

I’m off to college to make watches work while thinkin’ of wards. Huzzah!

  7. Should have signing details soon. Looks like Forbidden Planet and Goldsboro Books in London, and possibly a trip to Manchester.

I don’t know when or if Book Depository will have TGB, but Subterranean and Amazon US are actively shipping. There is no plan yet to print the book in the UK, and since the US print run was only 2,000 or so copies, they are expected to sell out relatively soon.

  8. Any plans to do some signings in France, too? Possibly even the South of France?

  9. Heh, The Great Bazaar came into stock on Book Depository around 10:48am and was sold out when I got the email two hours later =(.

Guess I’ll just have to cross my fingers for a UK print, hehe. The ‘citement of TDS is enough t’keep me goin’ I think, heh.

  10. Learco, I will probably schedule a French appearance sometime after the translation of The Desert Spear, which I think is scheduled to be published by Bragelonne in October (but don’t quote me on that).

  11. Great review.

  12. I’ve discovered the downside of reading a book early, and that is that I have to wait longer then everyone else for the next book. Almost makes me with I had held out a bit longer…
So… what do I have to do to win a copy of Daylight War?

  13. Er… first you have to wait for me to finish writing it or acquire a time machine.

According to Einstein, if you get in a spaceship and travel at the speed of light for an hour, you will be able to come back and read my entire catalog, including whatever crap Cassie (who will be an old woman by then) will have published posthumously.

If you don’t have a spaceship, you can try standing over me with a whip, but I can’t promise the same level of quality.

I’ll be publishing some more novelettes like The Great Bazaar in the meantime to help tide folks over. 🙂

Thanks so much for the great review!

  14. Hmm…you have some interesting ideas there. I was just going to offer to come over and take over all the cooking, cleaning and childcare so that you could be free to write your next book. But the spaceship idea has merit too.

  15. Wait, Simcha. Let’s not be hasty. Your original plan is worthy of further investigation…
