Wednesday Messenger

Lots going on as usual, including a facelift for the website and some other fun projects. I’ll get into all that soon, but in the meantime, here’s some fun stuff the Messenger brought today:

First up is a signed UK edition of Nights of Villjamur by Mark Charan Newton. Mark and I have never met, but I guess you could say he’s my twitter friend. Not sure how this ranks him in the social networking hierarchy. Is a twitter friend worth more or less than a Facebook friend? Hmm.

Anyway, Mark’s book has gotten a lot of buzz overseas, but he will not be published here in the US for another couple of months (I know that pain). Since the book’s not available yet, I cut a deal with Mark and we swapped signed books.

For Cassie, I tracked down the Daredevil/Elektra Marvel Superhero Squad 2-pack. I’ve been collecting these for Cassie since she was conceived, and she loves to come to my office and play with them. I have been very careful, though, to only buy sets with female heroes, so that there is an equal boy-girl ratio in Cassie’s collection, even though the actual ratio of the toys is more like 10/1 in favor of the boys. I want Cassie to love comics and superheroes, but I also want her to have strong female role models. This requires a lot of hunting on eBay, as the girl figures are rare and collectible, but nothing’s too good for my girl. If anyone has a line on the Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat Superhero Squad figure, let me know. I’m having a devil of a time finding it.

I also received a sample of the Painted Man UK audiobook on 18 CDs…

And the Desert Spear UK audiobook on 25 CDs! Those will be fun to rip into iTunes.

As always, I saved the best for last. UK Desert Spear samples (finally!). The original shipment was apparently lost in Scotland somewhere, so a new batch had to be sent. I now have a nice set of signed first edition hardcovers to give away. I smell a contest coming up…
