Warding Contest Winners

Well, the Warding Contest is over, and true to my promises, the judges met within a week to pick winners. It was really nice to have help choosing. I have a love/hate relationship with these contests, because the entries are always so incredibly awesome that I feel like even the least of them deserve prizes, and I never have enough prizes to go around. I’m like a hippie elementary school sports coach who wants to quit keeping score and give everyone a trophy. You are all champions. Seriously. There really wasn’t a bad entry in the bunch. Lauren and I debated some of the ones that missed the list a long time before cutting them.

But like I said, there are never enough prizes. Lauren and I made five posters, and five only. She gave them to me today, already signed by her, each with a unique hand-drawn ward.  They are fucking gorgeous. I kind of want to keep one myself. To that I raided my dwindling personal stores to add 5 signed 1st worldwide (UK) edition copies of The Desert Spear, and 4 signed Warded Man paperbacks. Fourteen prizes for dozens of entries.

So without further ado, let’s get to the winners:

Poster Winners:

Mitchell, from Texas, USA is a champion with his Portable Ward Circle:

Nanaki from the UK for her absolutely gorgeous rendition of Leesha’s Herb Basket:

Justine from Virginia, USA for her amazing Warded Tribal Tattoo Design:

Arthur, from California, USA for his stellar set of Aluminum Wardpost Lanterns:

Andreea from Romania, a beautiful method actor who became a live-action Renna. If you blow up the pic, every one of those beads is warded!:

Desert Spear Winners:

Francine from the UK was one of the first entries with her Warded Guinea Pig. This picture is still the desktop background on my laptop after close to 2 months:

Jessica from France actually killed a demon to carve these Alagai Hora:

Dwayne from the UK knew the path to my heart with this fantastic Renna Action figure. It just occurred to me that Dwayne was at my London signing and therefore already has a signed TDS, but we’ll work something out. He’s earned it:

Lauren from Australia, AKA Aussie Lauren, AKA Lauren Down Under was another early entrant, and still a serious contender with Arlen’s Messenger Journal:

Kim from Saskatchewan, Canada for her impregnable Warded Chest:

Warded Man Winners:

Carol from the UK is bloody hardcore with her ward tattoos:

Alex from Pennsylvania, USA had one of the most clever and delightful entries in the lot with his Warded Pizza:

Gazza from the UK did some really sharp work warding his guitar:

Rowell from the UK also did a great set of Alagai Hora:

Okay, that’s it. I wanted to write more about the entries and why they won, but it is late and I drank too much scotch during the judging, so I am off to bed. I want to reiterate that if you entered but didn’t win, you are still awesome, and you can expect a bookplate with that in writing in the mail.

I probably won’t have another contest for a couple of months, but the next challenge is already set, and the grand prize is awesome. More on that soon…

  1. Hey Peat and Lauren,

just wanted to say thanks for including me in the list of prize winners. I feel totally privileged in getting my hands on The Warded Man (I’ve made a place on my ‘special’ shelf for it). I can see it must of been pretty tough to pick winners because there were so many awesome ideas and skillful wardmanship entries. Overall it was an amazing competition to try my hand at and even more interesting to follow. Look forward to the next one.

    Thanks very much x 🙂

  2. Wow guys, congratulations to you all! Those are some seriously cool stuffs! Hope the poor scotch didn’t suffer too much on account of the difficult judging.

*Shivers in anticipation of a competition he may have time to enter….*

  5. Oh my GOD! I just can’t believe I am one of the winners! I’m in shock. I never won something in my life, and this is more than I ever imagined. Thank you so much, Peter, and also a big, big thanks to Lauren for picking me as one of the lucky 5 poster winners. My mom got scared when I started screaming and running around the house, forgetting to breathe because of the excitement. I had hopes, but I didn’t really expect to win. I can’t believe it!
But I do wish to ask you something. Before saying anything, I want to tell you that I don’t want to offend neither you nor Lauren in any way, because her artwork is absolutely breath-taking! I couldn’t help but notice that Dwayne from the UK already owns a signed TDS and, because I think his entry is way better than mine, I would very much like to offer him my poster, in return of his TDS. Of course, if he agrees and if you and Lauren are okay with it. Shamefully, I didn’t have the chance to buy your books yet 🙁 I did read them though, because one of my best friends ordered them from UK and lent them to me. I’m hoping your books will get soon to Romania, cause I can’t wait to get my paws on my own copies *evil laugh*.
Heh, I think that’s enough babbling for one day. Thank you once again for the honor of winning. And I apologize once again if I offended you or Lauren in any way. That was clearly not my intention.

Have a great, inspiring weekend, Peter!
    Hugs,
    Andreea Cozariuc

  7. Mitchell,
Loved the portable warding circle, it was looking clean and professional (are you sure you’re not a carpenter?).

    Peat and Lauren,
Thank you for choosing my entry! It was a lot of fun and I can’t wait to put the poster up.

  8. Congrats to the winners!!!!
I would have needed a whole bottle of scotch to pick, because they were all so awesome! I feel really honored to have been chosen, I’ve never won anything before! Thanks for the opportunity to enter, and thank you sooooo much for deeming my chest worthy. No pun intended. hahaha
I will keep an eye out for the next contest, and give myself more than three days….:)

  9. Congratulations to all the winners! 🙂 I can’t believe I’m one of the winners, after seeing other people’s entry I sort of thought I lost.

Thank you so much Peat and Lauren.

  10. Thank you very much for choosing my entry for the desert spear prize! After entering my picture and then going through the two months of waiting and seeing the absolutely fabulous entries, I didn’t really end up expecting much. I can now explain to my sister how I am not mad to be ‘graffitiing’ a guinea pigs ‘personal effects’ for a contest.
Congrats to everyone who won! I loved all the entries 😀

    Again thank you so much!

A lot of the were awesome, I shocked you were able to choose.

    Thank you once again.

  13. This contest was so difficult to judge. I feel obligated to apologize to the people who didn’t win–there were far more strong entries than we had prizes. You’re all awesome!

And yeah yeah, Peat, shut up. I’ll get you one. 😛

  16. Would just like to add that all the entrants have my deep respect. My warded toilet seat is still sitting in my shed with a poorly drawn ward on the lid. the plan was a toilet seat to protect from water demons that could also be used as a shield. My commitment was obviously lacking. Congrats to all who even entered, not just those that won.
