Audio Contest Entries

The audio contest, where you can win a deluxe signed edition of Brayan’s Gold, is still going strong. We have a few great entries already, but there is still time for others to enter. The contest ends in 36 hours at 11:59 pm Eastern US time. You can enter by going to the audio contest blog post. All of the instructions and helpful tips are there.

Here is Jessica Strider’s entry, which is frankly adorable. She’s reading from The Warded Man:

Here is Elicius’s entry, whose dire reading perfectly fits the terrifying scene from chapter 14 of The Desert Spear :

Here is Eve’s clip. She’s a native German speaker, but did a fantastic reading in English (it makes me rather envious). She’s reading from The Desert Spear as well.

I present to you Snellopy’s submission. He has a nice calming voice…until the demon’s arrive. I admit I jumped a bit. He’s reading from The Painted Man’s twenty-first chapter.

Here is Iris’s audio clip in German. It was fun to listen to; since I don’t speak German, the reading and emotion in it is so much more important. She’s reading from Der große Basar, the German version of Brayan’s Gold.

And last but not least is Kaz Augustin’s audio clip, where she reads from the very beginning of The Warded Man. I think Kaz should consider a new career in reading audiobooks. It sounds so professional. Don’t you think?

  1. Seriously, Snellopy?

    I think I peed a little bit.

Just HAD to turn the volume all the way up didn’t I?

  2. Wow, Kaz… That is an amazing reading. I would listen to you talk. All. Day. Long.

  3. Woah, Snellopy, that’s a low growl? Even expecting it, I still jumped! These are all awesome, I’m looking forward to see how it turns out!

  4. Aw thanks Kit! Most people who hear my voice are confused but, then again, that could just be what I’m saying rather than how I’m saying it. If you think I sound good, maybe I should suggest that Peter write ALL my conversational dialogue from now on. 🙂

It’ll be a steady gig, Peter. Whaddya say? Blow that fantasy schtick and come over to the contemporary side of the fence. 😉 I may not pay but you’ll have my undying gratitude and, surely, that’s way better than mere cash.

  5. Heh, I went piratical with Jardir, as I was running out of voices. My first recording, which ended up with too much feedback and too quiet to use (the one with the spitting). Most of the voices I use for stories are silly ones, I don’t have that many normal people. I ran out. Jeorjie Watch got a mouse voice (bulked up a bit), Raddock Lawry got what my kids would recognise as my owl voice, and Arlen in that reading had a tamed version of the big bad wolf voice. Female voices I do in a bad falsetto (partially due to incompetence, partially to get the kids to laugh), so with blandishments and lollipops, I lashed three of my students to the mic.

So by the time I was doing the desert spear reading, I was plumb out of options, I only had silly voices left. Pirate was the most normal of them so I ran with it. I should have realised I was too lazy to fix the other recording, and just used a different one.

Elicius mate, you picked a really rough piece to do, I’m impressed with the feeling you put into it!

The cool accents (obviously Australian is the One True Speech 😉 ) and the foreign language reading are awesome, I love them.

And Kaz, I agree, you should be a professional voice overer – I’d buy anything you’d be selling.
