  1. Hmmm. Dassem Ultor from the Malazan books by Steven Erikson vs The Bloody Nine from Joe Abercrombie’s world should be insane.

  2. Rand vs. Rake.

Lews Therin reborn versus the Son of Darkness.

Both Rand and Anomander are skilled in their respective magic systems but they also are proficient in good ole ass kickery when it comes to the blade.

I think a battle that would start on the ground that would inevitably end up in the sky between the Dragon Reborn and an actual Dragon would be pretty bloody…

  3. Glokta from the first law vs Bruna from the Painted man.

  4. Oh I want in on this.

Prince Benedict of Amber, supposedly the best swordsman and general in the multiverse, against Anomander Rake from the Malazan novels.

I think Benedict would find someone who can take the form of a dragon to be a challenge…and I think Rake would find Benedict an opponent who has fought nearly as many battles as he has.

Worlds would die before a victor could be determined!

  5. Arlen and Ahmann Jardir.

Posted by Nicholas Frost, on July 3rd, 2012 at 9:12 am
  6. Teresa of the Faint Smile (Yagi Norihiro’s Claymore), and Kenpachi Zaraki (Tite Kubo’s Bleach). Both use just a blade, and both are extremely powerful, t’would be a sword battle to end all sword battles

Posted by Eoin, on July 3rd, 2012 at 9:19 am
  7. I’d have to say Belgarion with the Sword of the Rivan King vs Rand Al’Thor with Callandor.

Both have brutal magical powers and both are master swordsmen. It would probably cause the end of this world and several others in proximity, but man would it be awesome!

  8. Conan the Barbarian vs. Gimli the Dwarf

Forget magic – I’m in the mood for a slugfest

  9. Since no one else will prolly…

Raistlin Majere (Dragon Lance) (Master of the Past and the Present)

    vs

    Elminster Aumar (Forgotten Realms)

Many other fights I would like to see as well. This would be pretty darn epic I think though.
If Arlens wards worked on all their then throwing him at either of them would be pretty nifty as well.

  10. Frodo Baggins vs Tyrion Lannister. Hand to hand combat…Epic! Frodo is a little bigger I think but Tyrion defiantly has more of a fight in him. Also I would love to see Frodo get his ass kicked for some reason.

  11. I totally second the Frodo vs. Tyrion. I think that would be an awesome fight that Tyrion would ultimately win. He’s not afraid to fight dirty but I think Frodo might have a few tricks up his sleeve to keep it interesting.

  12. I’d have to say, Vin from the Mistborn series and Kaladin Stormblessed (at least, until he masters the three Lashings).

Both are insane characters that had undergone some really insane situations, and insane epic battles. And both are from the same author.

  13. Bayaz from Abercrombie’s First Law trilogy versus Zeddicus Zu’l Zorander from Goodkind’s Sword of Truth series.

  14. I just read Heroes so a duel between Logen and Gorst would be awesome. Both are hard men and go nuts on the battlefield.

  15. I think a battle between Khalul, First among the Eaters (from the First Law trilogy), and the Warded Man would be very impressive. The use of Art against stolen core magic would be quite a battle. It helps that the fight would inevitably occur if the two ever were to meet.

  16. I’m one of the reviews 😀

I think I would go for a battle between Richard Rahl and Arlen, or even Jardir, but this would be excluding Richards War Wizard magic (but maybe not necessary with how it functions). All 3 men are elite fighters, and I find myself grinning at just the thought of this fight. All have their own code of honor and morality, which they hold themselves to very strongly. I just enjoy finding the common links between them, I guess. Anyway, all of them are skilled with blades, and I could see a battle that would have something like what happened with Hector and Ajax at Troy: the warriors fought for hours to a stalemate. Through their combat, they came to respect each other greatly and even exchanged gifts after the fight. Very cool stuff!

  20. Vin from the Mistborn Trilogy and Arlen.

  23. For me it would be, Druss the Legend against Gregor Clegane, the Mountain that Rides. It would be one hell of a slugfest. Plus, I could see Druss being more than willing to take down a brute like Clegane.

  26. “In the Sombre corner, dressed in black from the top of his stovepipe hat down to his winklepicker boots, victorious in four score and seven smack downs, the WWF is proud to present your 16th president, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter! And in the Glittering corner, the homemaker heartthrob, Bella’s Beau, Sir Sparkling hisself… Eeeedwaaaarrrrddd Cuuuulllllennnnn!”

I can see “honest” Abe taking a dive after an impressive lead. In the post match interview, frothing and ranting he snatches the mic from the reporter and calls out Cullen to a 3 on 3 cage mage same time next week which the promoters are only too happy to provide.

At the exhortations of the promoters Abe Lincoln goes the eye-candy route, enlisting the aid of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Anita Blake as those two in spandex and lycra will rope in plenty of viewers. In a nod to film buffs and hipsters, Cullen is flanked on one side by Bela Lugosi rocking it as old school Dracula and Sesame Street’s purple Count von Count on the other side.

Things are going well for the undead side, with Drac slamming Abe’s head into the turnbuckle repeatedly and the Count happily counting along. Buffy and Anita distract the referee by stretching languorously, giving Van Helsing (who was lurking on the sidelines) time to snatch up a chair and smash Bela over the noggin. Lincoln groggily pins him for the three count and the fans go wild in the bleachers.

  27. I would love to see Arlen/TPM [c. Start of The Daylight War] Vs Kalladin Stormblessed [c. Start of Stormlight Archive Bk 2]. I think that would be a seriously cool story to read. Plus, the best fights are always between two ‘good guys’.

A lot of the answers above are pretty epic [although Merlin was totally real, pffsh] and it would be great to read some of those interactions too. Man, thinking about this is going to make my morning at work interesting….

  28. I would love to see Roland the gunslinger from Stephen King’s Dark Tower series go up against Waxillium Ladrian from Brandon Sanderson’s The Alloy of Law. How would Roland cope with Wax being able to push on metals!? To pistol clasping gunslinger characters. That would be epic.

Also, who wouldn’t want to see Brent Week’s Durzo Blint from the Night Angel trilogy battle it out with Gavin Guile from his other book The Black Prism.

Theres just too many characters! (Gandalf and Allanon would be another fantastic battle!)

  29. I would love to see Richard Rahl and Arlen, or Jardir! I think that all are elite fighters and all have a very strong code of honor and morality. I could really see something happening like with Hector and Ajax at Troy, where they end the fight in a stalemate and become friends. I would love to see that… I am grinning at the thought, even!

  30. Harry Dresden versus Jardir.

Jardir and Harry square-off against each other across the battlefield, glaring at each other menacingly, trying to measure-up each other.

Harry has his staff in hand, runes beginning to glow fiercely as he snarls. Jardir starts to show off his spear in a spectacular showcase is fast, precise movements. It loos like the two will charge at each other…

Then Harry pulls out his .44 magnum and drops Jardir a la Indiana Jones.

  31. Jorg from The Prince of Thorns and Kvothe from King Killer Chronicles.

Give them both plenty of notice and move away any bystanders and it would be a battle of witty one liners, dirty tricks and lots and lots of blood.

Posted by Shepherd, on July 6th, 2012 at 12:37 pm
  32. I must be old. Garet Jax, Drizzt, Sol of all weapons, Conan and Gath of Baal come to mind. A slugfest with little or no magic. I would have to square Conan off against Gath for a good ol’ barbarian brawl, but the best would likely be Garet vs. Sol – dual of the weapons masters.
