Solstice Gift: The Core Chapter 1

Happy Solstice!

As my readers know, solstices—summer and winter—are major holidays the Demon Cycle books. Sunlight holds the demon corelings at bay. Long, bright days are celebrated, and short dark ones feared.

Winter Solstice is a day when Thesans and Krasians alike renew bonds of friendship. There is dancing and feasting. Gifts are exchanged and debts forgiven.

As my solstice gift to readers the last couple of years, I posted a free story, Holiday in Tibbet’s Brook, starring young Arlen, Renna, and the rest of the Tibbet’s cast. If you haven’t had the chance, I highly recommend reading it. It’s like visiting old friends.

But this year, I have something even more special: Chapter 1 of The Core, book 5 in the Demon Cycle.

WARNING!!

I still have a LOT of writing to do on The Core. It is nowhere near finished. More like 1/3. This chapter should NOT be taken as sign of imminent release. The Core will NOT be publishing in 2016.

That said, I know quite firmly where things are going. Enough to share with you a very exciting taste of what’s to come, if you dare to click Leesha’s mortar & pestle below.

Stay safe, my true friends. Triple-check your wards tonight.

You’ve been warned.

  6. Please don’t think me to be any less of a fan than those who were able to read it sooner (or rather those who were unable to resist the call of The Core), but Fate conspired to have me read the chapter on this day.

I won’t go into a long essay as to why I just now had time to read The Core Chapter 1 but today I finally found the condition to be right for me to enjoy this chapter.

About half way through I received a picture text message from my older brother, with a picture of my newborn niece. It was a holy-shit-moment as I was reading on Leesh’s labor to know that my sister-in-law was very moments earlier going through the same ordeal.

After phoning them with my congratulations I finished the chapter. I must say that I was able to connect with the words on a much deeper level as I continued to remind myself that this crazy miracle happens every day, but holy shit it just happened for my oldest brother.

Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed this gift you gave us on the Winter Solstice, posted at midnight no less!

Thanks Peat, you are a fantastic writer, and an all around cool dude!
