Baby Caption Contest: Reminder

Posted by Karen

Hey everyone! I’m taking a quick break from posting entries from the Still Life Contest to remind everyone about Peat’s mini-contest.

Last week Peat put up a picture of his baby (I’ve hung out with her and can confirm 10/10 adorableness in person).

Whoever replies to his post with the best caption gets a signed book. If you haven’t already put something up, you can reply here.

Please reply to Peat’s Instagram post. Replies to this blog post will not be counted. Good luck!

Still Life Contest: Hungarian Books Entry (Part 2)

Posted by Karen

Hey everyone!

This is part two of the massive amount of submissions Krisztina sent in for the Still Life Contest. Starting next week we’ll go back to getting the entries of multiple people out in one day. For now, check out these awesome still life pics:

Krisztina Toth1

I love this. You can tell lot of thought went into the layout and coloring of this shot. It really came out well.

Krisztina Toth3

In the last post, I mentioned how the Warded Man covered looked good against hay. Again, I think Krisztina chose the perfect book for the terrain.

Krisztina Toth4

Goodness, I hope this shot didn’t have too many takes. Holding up all those heavy books would make my wrist tired! This is an awesome picture (and if anyone knows where to get that bracelet, let me know because I want one).

Krisztina Toth5

I’m really digging the shadow-play here. Very appropriate for The Demon Cycle.

Krisztina Toth6

A horse makes a guest appearance here. Perhaps some acquaintance of Twilight Dancer?

Krisztina Toth7

I’ve tried to get this book-origami effect with some of my own and let me tell you– it’s not as easy as it looks. The fact that Krisztina managed to get it and make it stay in place long enough to snap a picture is really impressive!

   Krisztina Toth12

I don’t know where this last shot is, but I want to take a nap there on that green, green grass. Beautiful.

Krisztina Toth9

I would like to enter the Still Life Contest with these pictures. I uploaded them to my Instagram account too – my username is @girlwithoutwingsbooks. I hope you are going to like them. 🙂

If you’d like to see more of Krisztina’s photography work, feel free to browse their instagram! We’ll be putting up more entries later on this week, so if you haven’t seen yours yet, be sure to check back.

Still Life Contest: Hungarian Books Entry (Part 1)

Posted by Karen

Hey everyone!

Krisztina Toth sent in a BUNCH of entries for the Still Life Contest, more than we’ve ever gotten from one person (at least, as long as I’ve been working for Peat). There’s enough material that we needed to split up Krisztina’s submissions into two posts. This is the first, second to be sent out tomorrow. Enjoy!

First up is the gorgeous Hungarian translation of Daylight War:

Krisztina Toth10

This is a simple shot, but you don’t need much to see how pretty this version is. To me the border always looked like torn parchment which, given the Demon Cycle’s setting, is appropriate.

Krisztina Toth8

Ahh, nothing starts off a good day like a drink and a book. Classic… also, I very much want that mug.

Krisztina Toth11

Bookshelf shot!! Again, I love these so much because it shows what else Demon Cycle fans are reading. Is that some Gail Carriger I spy? I think it is. Peat and Gail are friends, so it’s appropriate that their books are neighbors.

Krisztina Toth2

I love that Krisztina chose the Warded Man for this picture. The colors go so well against the hay. A very earthy shot, in my humble opinion. Very nice.

Still Life Contest: Two Rojer Entries

Posted by Karen

Hey everyone!

Just a few entries from The Still Life Contest today because the next one is going to have a LOT. This post features submissions featuring one of my favorite characters– Rojer Halfgrip himself.

Our first one was sent in by Jo Amies:

Jo Amies

I thought I would try my hand at entering with a Rojer inspired artwork. Hope you like it ?

The digital effects and coloring on this is just lovely. I highly recommend clicking on this picture to see it bigger.

Next up is a submission from Jo H:

Joe H

The favorite chair with the favorite book.

I won’t lie, that chair looks frikken comfortable. I’m not saying I’m going to come steal it, but I’m not saying I’m not going to either.

Again, thanks so much to everyone who entered!

Still Life Contest: Quick Note And More Entries!

Posted by Karen

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much to everyone for participating in The Still Life Contest. We got more entries than expected and that is -FANTASTIC-. We get to give out more prizes and that there’s more to show off on the blog. It’s a win-win for us!!

That being said, the quantity of entries means it will take some time to share them all and choose a winner. We could cram the lot into a single blog post, then pick winners the next day, but that seems ungracious. I’ve watched these submissions come in and I know everyone has put a work into them. Some people have put in a LOT of work.

So we’re taking the scenic route. During the next few weeks, I’ll be doing my best to sort through the entries and put them up in blog posts. Once they’ve all had their time in the spotlight, Peat and I will talk prizes. In the meantime, here’s the first post-deadline batch of entries. Check them out!

First up is an absolutely fearless shot from Adam Groves:

Adam Groves

This was… a brave, brave picture to take. I applaud you, Adam.

Next is Iris’

Iris Opaterny

Some eagle-eyed viewers might recognize that journal as one of the winning entries of our Warding For Treasure Contest.

Jan25 sent in this entry that my inner photographer just ADORES:

Have a nice day! Greetings from the Czech Republic!

This one really did make our day! You can tell that there was thought put into how this shot was set up. Plus that Mind Ward is a lovely touch! Absolutely wonderful.

Again, thanks so much to everyone who entered! Look forward to seeing more submissions soon. If you haven’t seen yours yet, keep an eye out for it!
