Nearly 5,000 people have attended the Books Beneath The Bridge series since 2012 and gathered around Martin Amis, Patti Smith, Colson Whitehead, and Paul Auster to hear them read their words first-hand.

On the first Monday in August, Books Beneath The Bridge will be taking on a world of magic and might with two wonderful fantasy novelists. Peter V. Brett and Naomi Novik will be reading, answering questions and, of course, signing books! Peter V. Brett has promised succor for all those who come to chat about The Demon Cycle— most recently The Skull Throne.

Naomi Novik is the New York Times bestselling author of the Temeraire series. Her new book, Uprooted, is a story of magic, wizards, intrigue, friendship, and love. Don’t worry, her fans will have succor too!

Books Beneath The Bridge promises to be an amazing time for all involved. Be strong, brave the night, and I hope to see you there!

O Protegido Ward Contest: Contest Closed!

Posted by Karen

It’s the final day of O Protegido Ward Contest! We’ll be taking entries through tonight, but once the last demon is burnt away tomorrow morning, that’s it! If you live in Brazil and want to send something in, don’t wait! In the meantime, have a look at some of our newest submissions…

Lauro and Yara explain the process of their amazing Rojer tribute:

I tried to put some references to the scene, along with my circle. Balls, a little guitar, and a commoner clothes (almost like a hobbit). So, this is my memento of Roger. Hope you like it. The boy is Ulisses (2yo), son of Lauro and Yara.

This has got to be one of our youngest cosplayers by far! Lauro and Yara did a great job with this setup and Ulisses is working the jongleur look like a pro!

I love all the details, from warded plaques to those gorgeous juggling balls and, of course, his handy bag of tricks. Really great job by the entire family!

Emerson Berlanda sent us this great picture of a night by the fire pit:

campire

Awesome job, Emerson! I love the placement of the wards and how dark the surroundings are. Feels like demons might attack any minute, but I’m sure can could take them!

Simon Hall

Great interpretation of seeing the world through a demon’s eyes! I love the balance of animal instinct and intelligence. Thanks so much for sending this in!

Matt Mercer gives us a human’s nerve-wracking escape. Or does he…

Matt Mercer

I definitely didn’t expect that ending! This is why its important to keep track of time. Very cool, Matt!

It’s amazing how much emotion can come through 100 words. Really beautiful entry, Robin.
