As you may have heard, there was some dissatisfaction over my decision to switch the UK audiobook narration to Pete Bradbury, the US narrator, whose work I absolutely love. Many UK and AU listeners were jarred by the change, and wanted a switch back to Joyce, or at the very least, a narrator with a UK accent. While there was no drop in sales over the Bradbury version (quite the contrary), HarperVoyager UK agreed with the sentiment, and we began an exhaustive search over the course of the last six months to find the new UK/AU voice for the Demon Cycle. A couple times we were close, only to have an actor we liked unavailable.
But after much deliberation, I am pleased to announce that the new UK Audiobook narrator will be (drumroll please) …
Colin Mace! Colin’s got a lot of experience and a great voice to give the Demon Cycle life. He and I had a long skype session to discuss names, accents, and the overall tone of the books, and I am confident he will do an amazing job. He will be re-recording the entire series (including The Great Bazaar and Brayan’s Gold) from the very beginning and then continuing on with the remainder of the series.
Why am I so confident in Colin? Well, before he had even spoken to me, he hit it out of the park with his audition recording from The Desert Spear. Click play below to hear him read an excerpt from The Desert Spear.
Want to hear other samples of Colin Mace’s work? You can find a ton of them here. As soon as the recordings are available, I will make another announcement. Thank you for your patience.
Can’t wait? Check out the US audiobooks, narrated by Pete Bradbury, here or the incredible Graphic Audio versions voiced by a full cast.
