Fan Art: Warded Stone

Posted by Meg

Found this on the Forum last week posted by Ron:

Marble-Ward-low-res

Here is what Ron had to say:

Ever since reading Mr. Brett’s masterpieces I have been trying to create something a little more tangible to have sitting on my bench and used your Rock Demon ward on marble and again on some sandstone. The marble needed 2 passes on a Co2 laser and the sandstone took almost 5! Next will be some slate trials

Beautiful work! I love how the ward looks carved into the marble slab.

Thick Books

Posted by Peat

Received a reader letter today I thought I’d share:

Greetings,

I have a question concerning The Skull Throne.

Seeing as how it will be bigger than The Daylight War, I was wondering: what will the dimensions be? I only have access to the British versions and TDW was as big as the Necronomicon published by Gollancz. So will TST be one massive volume, or split up into parts if it’s going to be bigger than TDW?

 Thanks in advance,

 Mihael

Demon_Cycle_HCsTo which I replied:

Hi Mihael,

There’s no way to know what the dimensions of Skull Throne will be. I am still writing, so the exact length of the book is yet to be determined. It will PROBABLY be lager than Daylight War, but not necessarily.

Also, the dimensions very much depend on the paper stock Voyager uses. You’ll note that Daylight War, which is only 20% longer than Desert Spear, was more than 50% thicker, because they used a different type of paper. I am not usually consulted on these things, so really, until the book goes through final production a few months before release, it’s anyone’s guess how long it will be.

I would be very resistant to any suggestion that the English version be split into two volumes, however. In countries where the translation vastly increases the size of the text, sometimes the sheer logistics of how thick a book spine can be before it breaks and pages fall out necessitates a split. This isn’t the case in English unless Skull Throne turns out to be more than twice as long as Daylight War, which I can assure you will not happen. 🙂

Thanks for writing!

Regards,

Peter V. Brett

Fan Art: Wind Demon Sketch & Painting

Posted by Meg

There has been a lot of beautiful fan art over on DeviantArt lately. Chari-san combined pterodactyls with wind demons to get this terrifying monster. monster_by_chari_san-d6vikty

Seriously scary. I wouldn’t want this guy dropping out of the sky above me. Beautiful detail on the wings and face. Thank you for posting!

Fan Art: Ragen the Messenger

Posted by Meg

Even more excellent fan art appearing on DeviantArt! This one almost slipped under the radar, as it was posted over a week ago. Glad I caught it because it’s an awesome sketch of one of my favorite side characters. Check it out:

Here is what the artist had to say:

Ragen, The messenger, almost like a father to Arlen ( i kind of thinks that Arlen have 3 fathers the Coward, and Cob and Ragen).

I know floating Wards around him is not something that he can do, but i think it just looks so cool, so they came to stay in that drawing.

So in case you did not understand it, this is Ragen from the The Demon Cycle book series (it is awesome, pure awesomeness)  and he is one of the characters in it that i really love (that is not one of the main badassess, but that i like those is only logical)

I love Ragen’s expression. Also, I think the floating wards add to the picture and Ragen’s character overall. Here’s to artistic license!
