Cage Match Round 3: Jardir versus Moiraine Damodred

Posted by Meg

Jardir has made it through some brutal battles, and it’s because of all the fans out there who believed in him enough to vote that he would win! Now, he has made it to Round 3 where he is up against a formidable opponent …

But first, let’s review our favorite warrior’s battle history:

First, he defeated Lady Jessica from the Dune series by Frank Herbert in a close, epic battle. This qualified him to move on to the next round where he went up against Havemercy, a magical, metal dragon from Havemercy by Jadia Jones and Danielle Bennett. Though Jardir wasn’t the predicted winner, he prevailed in the end.

Well, he may have met his match this time, but let’s make sure he goes down fighting! Jardir is now up against Moiraine Damodred, a character from Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series. But guess who the predicted winner is? Jardir! Let’s give him some power and head over to the cage match and vote for him! There is a prose write-up giving details on what might go down during the battle, so make sure to give that a read before casting your vote for the one and only, Jardir.

Boskone 2012 and @scalzi Portrait!

Posted by Meg

Peat went to Boskone 49 last month and had a blast.

(Books are not the Hammer)

You can also check out a fan’s account of weekend. For more pictures, taken by the Art Director at Tor, click here.

One of the really exciting parts of the weekend was that John Scalzi was the Guest of Honor. Artist Daniel dos Santos decided to draw a portrait of Scalzi over the weekend. Luckily, Peat was in a prime viewing location to take pictures of the portrait as it was being created. He snapped a series of photos every couple minutes, and I created this nifty gif of the proceedings:

Saturday, 2pm, Harbor I: Guest of Honor Interview and Portrait Painting In this unique mega-mixed-media event, our Official Artist Daniel dos Santos will both interview and simultaneously create a fabulous painting of our Guest of Honor John Scalzi. We considered requesting that John also be suspended facedown in a tub of Coke Zero and Daniel ride a unicycle, but you can only take fan service so far.

Reviews, Reviews, Reviews

It’s always exciting to see more bloggers reviewing and talking about Peat’s books for the first time. Here are some brand new reviews from some great blogs.

A Lot of Pages gives The Warded Man a glowing review and is one of the better summaries I’ve seen that talks about all three story lines: Arlen, Rojer and Leesha. Another enthusiastic review of The Warded Man recently popped up on A Reader’s World where the reviewer especially like the horror of the demons and the inventiveness of the curse words. The last review is on Krams of The Desert Spear where the blogger concludes that Arlen and Leesha are in favor of open source data! Now there’s something that never occurred to me.

Reddit Ask Me Anything Tonight at 8-10pm EST

Posted by Meg

As you may already know, Peat will be doing an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit tonight, March 14, from 8-10pm EST. You can post questions throughout the day or log in later to ask questions live!

Want to participate but don’t know how? Here’s how it works:

1. Create a username on Reddit in order to ask Peat a question.

2. Visit the Peter V. Brett AMA anytime today or live tonight between 8-10pm. Read the intro at the top and post your question (or questions) in the comments.

3. Reddit uses a pretty simple ‘upvote’ and ‘downvote’ system. See a question you want Peat to answer? Click the arrow to the upper left of the question to upvote it! Peat will answer the most popular questions first.

4. Be considerate and hide any spoilers. Many of the people on the forum will want to talk about specific things that happened in the books, but there are a lot of folks who haven’t read all the books yet. There is a simple way to hide text that contains spoilers. [Put the spolier text in brackets like this](/spolier) and close it with the spolier tag. The words are now hidden! When you roll your cursor over the section, your words will appear. There are detailed instructions at the top of the AMA page.

You can also just click the link and follow along with the ongoing discussion without making an account or asking questions. It’s up to you!
