Warded Wreath

Posted by Meg

Here is wishing everyone Happy Holidays from Peat and I. Just in time for the holiday season, super-fan Mia sent a most magnificent personalized gift for Peat … a warded wreath just in time for the holidays!

There are beautiful wards all over this amazing wreath, but we especially love the snow demon ward in the center. Nice touch for this (fingers crossed) white Christmas.

Here’s the letter she included:

A giant thank you to Mia from Peat and I. Mia is a top notch fan with an incredible talent for visual arts. She won the Homemade Heroes contest, but didn’t stop there. If you need any proof of Mia’s awesomeness, check out some of her earlier creations here.

And while you may be busy sipping hot chocolate or ripping open presents, don’t forget to submit your fan art to our latest contest by 11:59pm on December 31, 2011. For more details, check out the rules here.

Letter to the Author

Posted by Meg

We sometimes don’t know how what we do can affect other people. I think that one of my favorite things about reading books is that I am, in a sense, sharing a whole dreamt up world with the author and all the other people also reading it. It’s a shared experience even though it feels very close and very personal. Such are the joys of reading.

Over the summer, Peat got a really touching email from a woman named Penny and wanted to share it with everybody. This is what she had to say.

Hello,

I am the mother of a 23 year old son with Tourette Syndrome and OCD. His name is Levi. We live in a small farming community in Indiana. He has been basically housebound for close to 8 years. A few weeks ago I picked up one of your books at K-Mart. He loved your book so much … he could barely sleep. He asked me to get all your books and I’ve ordered what I could afford. I run a Licensed Daycare Home because I always had to be home with him. I homeschooled him from the 9th grade up. I was sad to see The Great Bazaar was so out of reach for us. We live on our own and money is pretty tight. Do you know if there will be a time that it will cost less? He just sits around holding your book, feeling the cover, like it is the most precious thing in the world.

I just got through ordering all the Raymond Fiest books the Riftwar Series three weeks ago, after he read the first two books … while he was waiting on the rest, he read your book and now he won’t touch the others until he can read all of your books. I try to do what I can to make him happy and anything that I can possibly do to make his life better I try to do. He never asks for anything special. He has been going through a rather rough time right now and he has been really sad and withdrawn for months. It was really good to see him so excited about something. I’m still on Amazon searching for the rest of your books that I can afford. He read The Warded Man and I have already ordered The Desert Spear. I saw where The Great Bazaar and the Brayan’s Gold are related to the other books. I don’t know how many you have, but I will be hunting them down tonight and hopefully I will be able to find the rest of them. I’m new at searching for things online and I was hoping to find a list of all your books in the order they need to be read.

I want to thank you for giving my son an escape from his own Demons. He is such a good boy and you have given him something to look forward to. Believe me, I was trying everything to get him to open up. He talks to me about your book and I will be looking forward to reading them myself if my son ever lets your book out of his sight. Just wanted to let you know you made a difference in someone’s life and that’s pretty special!

Thanks,

Penny

Thank you so much to Penny for reaching out. We sent Levi a signed copy of Brayan’s Gold last Monday.

Fotini Designs

Posted by Meg

In the past, as you may well remember, Fotini Designs has done some beautiful and impressive work. For the most recent Cosplay Contest, prizes included some beautifully warded silver necklaces and gold and brass metal bookmarks.

Really special stuff, right? One of our entrants was so excited he sent in pictures of his girlfriend wearing the necklace.

Box O Wonders

Posted by Meg

Back in August, Peat received a package in the mail containing the subway posters from the U.K. Campaign “Read Brett Yet?” Thinking it was just the subway posters that were too big to put the walls of his office, he put off opening it for three months until I started as Peat’s assistant. We opened the package, hoping the posters would be a manageable size,  but instead we discovered a Box of Wonders: fantasy books, subway posters of your lastest book and a David Gemmell Legend Award for Fantasy.

Unwrapping!

I wonder what could be in here?

Mini-Snaga!

But wait … there’s more?

A Game of Thrones in Hardcover

The posters are, in fact, giant, so we held off on unfurling them.

This is the design of the U.K.’s “Read Brett Yet?” campaign.

And here is the poster in its natural habitat, the London Underground.

And, purely for your enjoyment, here is Cassie with the mini-snaga looking like she’s going to wreak some major havoc.

Fan Art Contest: Arlen and One-Arm Tattoo

Posted by Meg

Here it is, folks. The first entry for the Fan Art Contest … Maria’s incredible tattoo of Arlen and one-arm.

Hello 🙂

Here is my entry to the new contest. This picture shows my leg with a tattoo about Arlen and one-arm; like on the french cover of The Painted Man. It is still unfinished; the warding and some extras are still missing … it will be finished in January.

Maria has gone above and beyond the call of duty with this one, taking after Arlen and using ink and needles on her own skin. Personally, I adore the French cover for The Warded Man; it depicts the scene of Arlen and One-Arm so well. I can’t think of a better choice for a tattoo!

Don’t forget to submit your own fan art to our latest contest by 11:59pm on December 31, 2011. For more details, check out the rules here.
