Meet Max Powers

Meet Max Powers (maybe). He’s the newest member of the family.

So far, “Max’s” big sister Jinx seems none too happy about the usurper in her house, playing with her toys, using her hand-me-down bowls and litter box, and stealing our attention.

But Jinx is the reason we got “Max”. Jinx… how can I say this? Jinx has problems with intimacy. She’s antisocial at best, and downright mean at worst. She only interacts with people and things by biting and scratching them. She won’t suffer to be petted or held, unless it’s 4am and you’re 90% alseep.

Jinx demands your attention with howling, but then runs away when you reach for her. She’ll demand you throw things for her to chase, never bring them back, and then howl at you for not throwing it again.

We’re hoping Max will help bring her out of her shell. He’s 4 months old, and big enough not to be pushed around, but innocent and young enough not to become a bully any time soon. He’s also proven himself already to be a lap cat who loves to be touched.

With good fortune, the two will balance, or at least cancel, each other out. We’re worried how having too cats will affect my allergies, but only time will tell. They will also be a handful if we ever go away, but luckily, the Pickytarian owes me like 2 weeks of cat-sitting.

Right now, Max is running around my feet like a maniac. Jinx is sitting in the doorway, staring. Every few minutes, they have a staring contest, then Max goes back to chasing phantoms in the room.

Any minute now, they’ll confront for the first time.

Excuse me while I go watch…
