Der große Basar
German readers, may I announce Der große Basar, my expanded collection of short stories set in the demon world! It will publish May 1, 2010, just a month after Das Flustern der Nacht. It will include the two Arlen novellettes, The Great Bazaar and Brayan’s Gold, as well as deleted scenes from Das Lied der Dunkelheit and other goodies.
Check out the amazing cover:
Very cool cover indeed! Awesome stuff Peat!
That’s very cool! I like the cover art of the german books.
Ich freue mich darauf! ^^
Yeah! It looks really cool! It will be an awesome book!
Do you know what this title translate to? I really like the cover as well. There’s such a beautiful loneliness to it.
Oh wait….duh. This is a literal title translation. The other two books they changed the name so I thought they might change this one to a similar sounding theme.
Once you begin to read in english, you’ll find out that the german translation most of the time sucks…I should have never began reading in english.
But have none of you seen the similarity between this (http://nomasliteraturblog.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/413fithkv5l__ss500_.jpg) by Patrik Rothfuss and “Der Große Basar” as well as “Das Lied der Dunkelheit”?
Are they done by the same artist?
I can’t tell you for sure, Eve, since I don’t speak German, but from all I’ve heard so far, my German translator, Ingrid Herrmann-Nytko, is excellent with a long career and great reputation. Her work on the first book, Das Lied der Dunkelheit, has been widely praised, and she has gone out of her way to get in touch with me about specific word choices in the translations. I am confident she will continue to do a fantastic job.
I really love the German covers. The UK cover is great, but very genre-oriented, meant to appeal directly to fantasy readers. The US hardback cover was meant to be more simple in hopes of attracting a larger readership, but misses the mark with the genre fans.
The Gerrnan covers are an excellent blend of the two, elegant and simple, yet clearly announcing the fantasy adventure nature of the story.
I did notice the similarity to the German Name of the Wind edition, but I don’t know if it’s a coincidence or something intentional.
Das sieht doch wirklich schön aus 🙂
[…] schon mal das deutsche Cover der Anthologie: Der grosse Basar Schlagworte: Anochs Sonne, Arlen, Brett Basar, Das Flüstern der Nacht, Das Lied der Dunkelheit, […]
Looks great, I really like the german covers.
And yes, the german translation sucks, I totally agree with Eve. Ingrid Herrmann-Nytko uses some german slang and some modern words like “Büro” (it means “Office” in english). Sometimes the syntax is a litte bit confusing…
At some points she really destroyes the atmosphere of this fantastic book.
regards from germany,
Ramona

Whoops! Sorry Lara. This is what happens when you write your blog posts at 3am.
I always spent my half an hour to read this website’s articles or reviews everyday along with a mug of coffee.
