Hey everyone! So I was poking around the interweb and found some inspirational quotes taken from the Warded Man.

This one seems to be especially popular. Five points to whoever knows where it’s from and which character says it (pop down and leave your guess in the comments):

Hey everyone! Final part of this Goodreads-Reviews week I’ve got going on. Honestly, I’m having a blast reading them. I

know how hard Peat is working on the Skull Throne (pretty darn hard), so it’s cool to hear what theories are floating around after the end of Skull Throne. While we’re all waiting, check out what other people had to say about the latest book:

Loved the book, especially the fact that you can never get to comfortable around some characters as their destinies can change in a blink of an eye. -Zlatan

This has been by far the most intense book of the series and my favorite as well. Looking back to book one, you can really see and appreciate how the intensity of the books has grown with each one; one can only imagine how the series will end!

This book was very hard to put down (just as the first three had been); I cant wait for book 5: The Core to be released! -Darienne

Oh dear lord, what a great read! There’s nothing like finishing a book and feeling like you have so many roiling emotions within you; frustration, sadness, happiness and I suppose above all, the hunger to know more. I absolutely love this series because of the world that Peter V. Brett has managed to create, so completely intricate and dense that you can’t imagine, or hate to imagine, that it doesn’t exist. The confusion of wanting to be a Dama’ting, the Painted Man, a Herb Gatherer, Shar’Dama Ka, or one who can manipulate the corelings with music (Roger) is hard to grapple with when you think you’ve managed to pounce on one as your favourite, only to realise that another character has pulled your ’emotional’ rug from under you. It’s too hard to decide who is the best, which is what makes the series so special, because you are conflicted with who is the better character since they are all so strong and complex in their own way. I waited a long time for the 4th instalment of the Demon Cycle series, and although it didn’t fully appease my hunger for the story it did have my heart racing most of the time. The way that he has managed to juggle the different characters’ stories, and make me feel conflicted about whether or not they’re the good or the bad guy, always flaws me – but in a good way. He has a way of making you think you either really like or hate the character, only to turn it around and make you realise that they’re actually so different to what you initially thought. I think it takes a very skilled author to create such multi-layered characters, and to do so with so many in the book is a great feat. The character development is awesome and although there wasn’t enough time (I personally feel) spent on the story of Arlen and Jardir, I think it gave a good insight for what is to come. In saying that, the name of the next book is enough to make me hate the 12 month or more waiting time. I think that the fourth book has managed to create a really good foundation for what is to come, and I have many questions that I can’t wait to be answered in the coming series. -Angelica

Ahhh, reading over these makes me want re-read the series. Again.

Hey everyone! Number three of The Demon Cycle was met with some… mixed reviews on Goodreads. As Peat’s assistant, I’m obviously an unbiased party. So I’ll only be picking the glowing 5-stars to show off.

Really allows you to delve into the Krasian lifestyle and how they operate on a more intimate level. This was an amazing read and as always, kept me wanting more! -Darienne

This was quite a good book! much drama and danger and deviousness and demons and daggers and dama’ting! great writing delivers some rather great characters, male and female, warriors and those who fight in different ways. lots of investment in learning a very key character’s POV that truly added to the complexities and layers of this tale. intelligent, emotional, strategic, deadly in many ways that are exciting and intriguing. this book worked subtlety on me, really escalating till I was addictively reading and am now jonesin’ for book 4. excellent book in a well-drawn series, each book better (in story and writing) than the one before! some very strong character arcs I look forward to continuing. my thanks for a great read! -Jason

As with the second book this firstly begins by reaching into the past of a character not previously explored. In this case it is Inevera. Whilst in the previous novel we have seen Inevera as largely a force against the protagonists, this book has gone a long way towards humanizing her and making us empathise with her and her actions. With this second time I have come to really appreciate how these early sections of the second and third books add to the depth of the story. Hopefully the fourth one will also have such a section. As with the previous books the characters continued to grow in their depth and complexity. And most are extremely easy to empathize with. However I really don’t like Renna at all. Which is a shame, but perhaps having a character to dislike made the story even more potent. And the world building in this series continues to be exceptionally good.
Yet again, if you haven’t read this series, I cannot recommend it more highly. -Sarah

Hey everyone! Second part of these Goodreads Reviews posts (yes, I am planning to do the rest of the books). Once again I went picking through and wasn’t disappointed. Demon Cycle fans are the best fans. Seriously.

Here are just a few of the recent five-star Goodreads reviews of the Desert Spear:

Been a longtime since I smashed through a series as quickly as this one. Does a great job of defining the whole “good antagonists can be empathised with” theory creating a conflict that whilst you hate it, you can kinda understand where he’s coming from. -Dan

God DAMN! So good. How you gonna be this good? Much longer than the first one, also a good deal rapey-er, but the character development is nothing short of stunning. I walked in ready to hate it, too, everybody on GoodReads talkin bout “second book” syndrome. Even the second Gentlemen Bastard’s book was somewhat lackluster. I was ready to be judgmental and cruel. I couldn’t. I can’t. That book was incredible. I am starting the third one right now. -Matt

This book is even better than its predecessor.
The first third of this book stuck with a single character, but changed around in terms of time periods. And whilst this was somewhat different to the multiple perspectives of the first novel. But the previous format returns for the later part of the book. And whilst the first section originally seems slightly awkward it really makes sense as you get towards the end of the book and added a really interesting dimension.
Furthermore the book managed to go in unexpected directions several times (which is relatively unusual in fantasy novels) and managed to keep you guessing about where it was going without throwing you any huge curve balls that broke you connection to the characters. If fact this is probably my favorite thing about this book. It keeps it interesting and its predictable.
He has managed to introduce new characters, while keeping our connection to the old, and has started to link them all together in a really skillful way.
This series is an absolute gem, and is going straight into my list of all time favorites. -Sarah
