Painted Man High School Book Club

Posted by Meg

Tony Jones from, teacher at the Emanuel School in the U.K., hasn’t read a lot of fantasy in recent years. However, after reading The Painted Man, he was inspired to share with students at his school. These devoted book club members came up with a way to remain anonymous while exhibiting their excitement for The Painted Man!

While he wasn’t able to make the meeting, Peat sent some encouraging words to the young readers:

Hi Everyone! I’m thrilled you’ve chosen The Painted Man as your Psychotronic Book Club read this month. It’s a fantastic time to be a reader, with so many amazing authors to choose from, so it means a lot to me that you’re giving my work a chance. The Painted Man is a fantasy story, but I think you’ll find it has a lot to say about the real world, as well. I hope you enjoy it. I’ll be touring the UK in the coming February/March, and hope to meet some of you while I’m on your side of the pond!

The Daylight War will be released on February 11, 2013 in the U.K. and February 12 in the U.S. Click here for more information and to pre-order the book.

Check back to the blog soon for Peat’s upcoming book tour in 2013. And don’t forget to enter the current video contest to win your very own Daylight War ARC.

DW ARC Contest: First Entry!

Posted by Meg

It’s here! The very first entry to the Daylight War ARC Contest! The entry comes from Roger.

Awesome job! The monologue is beautifully written and delivered. Check out what Roger had to say about his entry:

Here is the link to my ARC Contest video entry. I do hope you enjoy it! All of the images were found searching Creative Commons Licensing image threads that stated their work could be used. I do not personally own them. The monologue is performed and written by myself and inspired by “The Demon Cycle.” You’ll notice I make mention of three heroes, essentially excluding one of the major book protagonists from being mentioned. This is done intentionally as I meant for the story to have the appearance that the Jongleur “Rojer” was not present at that time and is in fact responsible for the stories existence at the time of this telling.

Want to read The Daylight War before everyone else? Know a special someone who would love it as a holiday present? The contest for Daylight ARCs has just begun! You can check out the rules here. Click here to pre-order the book.

Demon Art from Luke Fielding

Posted by Meg

Luke Fielding, who has done some breathtaking Demon Cycle art in the past, amazes us again with an array of coreling creatures.

Luke’s unique vision of what the Mind Demon looks like. In a word, terrifying. This teeth and eyes do not look friendly. Here’s what Luke had to say about his Mind Demon art:

The illustration is a combination of my sculpture of the mind demon, Peter V. Brett’s POV chapter art and inspired by Dominik Broniek’s amazing illustration.

It features a mind ward developed by Peter V. Brett and Lauren Cannon.

Here is Luke’s sketch of a clay demon.

Luke also created a cat-like fire demon:

It looks like there is a fireball waiting to erupt from that coreling’s mouth! Beautifully done!

Be sure to check out Luke’s stunning prize winning entry to the Daylight War Cover Contest and, for more art, his Deviant Art page.

U.S. Daylight War Cover Revealed

The U.S. cover for The Daylight War is here at long last, and it’s breathtaking.

If Warded Man is Arlen’s book and Desert Spear is Jardir’s, Daylight War is very much Inevera’s, and I am so thrilled with how the cover came out. It is exactly what I asked them for and captures the character of Inevera perfectly. Artist Larry Rostant and art director David Stevenson did an amazing job. I thought it would be impossible to love a cover more than Desert Spear, but Rostant has raised the bar again.

I was floored to have Entertainment Weekly break the story on Wednesday with an exclusive excerpt. As you know, SF often gets short shrift in mainstream press. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to click through and read. Please also take the time to like or comment on the article, and help show that genre readers are a force to be reckoned with. I would be thrilled to see this sort if thing happening with other genre books.

Done? OK. Now back to awesomeness. Check out the front and back covers together. You may notice these images are slightly different from the cover that debuted in EW. Rostant made some nice finishing touches.

I love the flow of the robes in the darkness. Those are going to look amazing in the ANIMATED BOOK TRAILER we’re working on. If you haven’t already, check out the Daylight War prologue teaser featuring Inevera.

What do you think of the new cover? Let’s us know in the comments or check out our new Daylight War forum for further discussion.
