Peat Becomes A Witch

Posted by Karen

Upon getting the mail today, we received a mysterious package. Imagine our delight when we found it contained, not just the cutest pink packing peanuts ever, but all sorts of witchy swag from our friends at Dirty Little Bookers.

A shirt, a beautiful pentagram bracelet…

…and an awesome jar to put things in!

What a cool surprise! We took a picture to immortalize Peat receiving his gifts. It really made our day and Peat is proud to consider himself an official honorary witch!

Thanks so much to Dirty Little Bookers for sending us all this great witchy swag! We love it. Can’t wait to see you at Speculative Fiction: Southeast (SF:FE)!

That’s right! In case you haven’t heard, Peat will be a guest author at SF:FE. He’ll be doing panels and workshops along with Orson Scott Card, Jacqueline Carey, Peter V. Brett and Kelley Armstrong. There’s going to be all sorts of nifty stuff going on, so don’t miss it!

RPG Forum Board

Posted by Karen

Hey everyone! Real talk for a moment— fans of The Demon Cycle are the best fans. Over the years, you all have sent in fanart and stories, made original characters, cosplayed, and seriously impressed the heck out of us!

Today, we came across another creative venture. A long-time fan created an RPG forum board post based on The Demon Cycle. Check out a snippet of their guidelines:

This looks like a lot of fun! We love when people explore what they can do with The Demon Cycle world. You can explore the rest of the site here!

It’s no secret that Peat himself enjoys roleplaying once in awhile. You can check out his Youtube channel where he and other authors have a blast with special charity-driven games of Dungeons and Dragons:

Author D&D

If anyone else has created a roleplay (forum-based or otherwise) set in The Demon Cycle, we’d love to hear about it in the comments!

Note: As always, when you’re roleplaying on a forum, be sure to get the artist/individual’s permission before using any pictures for your Play-bys and Face Claims.

The U.S. edition of The Skull Throne is on sale here!

Books Beneath The Bridge (Recap)

Posted by Karen

Hey everyone! Thanks so much to all of you who joined us for Books Beneath The Bridge. For those who couldn’t make it, here’s a recap of some of the highlights!

The day started off beautifully— clear skies and some truly gorgeous views on the way to the event. Photography skills aside, I did manage to snap a shot or two:

If you look close, you can catch Lady Liberty photobombing in the far left.

At 7pm, we spent a few minutes chilling, just in case there were any stragglers (spoiler alert: there were). Nobody seemed to mind. We had a nice breeze coming off the river and fellow fans to talk to!

Then Peat and Naomi read some of their deleted scenes and started on the Q&A’s. They answered thought-provoking questions like ‘what were your biggest influences?’ and ‘when did you know you wanted to be a writer?’ along with more technical inquiries about their preferred writing programs (Microsoft Word).

After all that, Peat and Naomi signed:

And signed:

And signed and signed while they chatted with their fans.

We ended the day with these two awesome authors enjoying each other’s company in the last few hours of daylight before they had to part ways to find succor:

Yesterday’s event was lots of fun. We’re so grateful to WORD for giving us the opportunity to spend some time talking to fans. If you were there, I hope this recap did the event justice. If not, I hope this was enough to fill you in and we hope to see you at our next event!

Want more writer talk? You can check out an interview that Peat and Naomi did together here!

The Skull Throne is now on sale in the U.S./U.K.! Order the U.S. edition here or visit Waterstones or UK Amazon for the U.K. version.

The Great Bazaar Drabble Contest: Winners!

Posted by Karen

Hi everyone! It’s been a long time coming, but the results of The Great Bazaar Drabble Contest have finally been decided. Remember that the prizes are signed paperback copies of The Great Bazaar and Brayan’s gold— two amazing novellas for the price of one!

You’ve waited long enough to find out the winners, so here they are!

Allie Jones with this amazingly creative piece about body-snatching demons:

After wowing us with her amazing cosplay skills, Joy Cronje shows she’s a heck of a writer as well!

Gina Gianetti’s action-packed entry definitely made the cut! Really powerful.

Cassandra Taylor’s untitled drabble is one of my personal favorites. I really admire how she captured the characters in so few words.

David Ashton and a heated conversation about warding and adaptation:

Love Matt Mercer’s chase scene. Original and suspenseful and overall just aweome!

Destin Lee snagged a win this intriguing beginning to a legend:

Congratulations to everyone who submitted! There were a ton of close seconds and all of them were really incredible! This was my first completely self-organized contest for Peat. It’s very close to my heart and I’m so, so grateful to all the talented writers who entered.

Really. Thank you.

We hope that everyone had as much fun with this contest as we did. If you didn’t win this time (or even if you did), be on the lookout for more upcoming contests! The next one should be a doozy.

You can get your own copy of The Great Bazaar and Brayan’s gold here!
